DFB managing director Oliver Bierhoff firmly expects regular keeper Manuel Neuer to take part in the World Cup.
“One thing is when you can’t do it at all. The other is when you say you have so many games and deliberately give yourself a break to get really healthy,” said Bierhoff at a media round on the German football campus -Bundes: “I have no feedback that this is a lengthy story.”
Bayern Munich recently missed Neuer in three games because of a bruised shoulder joint, and Leroy Sané’s torn muscle fiber will probably not be a problem with a view to the World Cup (November 20th to December 18th). At the moment there is generally “no one we would have to write off the World Cup for,” Bierhoff explained.
Even with Florian Wirtz there is still hope after his cruciate ligament tear. “In the end it depends on the coaches what they trust him to do,” Bierhoff explained: “With 26 players there are a lot of thoughts. Maybe it makes sense to take a player with us who doesn’t have the game practice, but would then be able to attend a tournament like this. “
