Fast fashion giant Shein launches resale platform

‘Shein Exchange’ will allow customers to buy and sell pre-owned clothes from the brand, the Chinese fast fashion outlet announced on Monday. The resale platform, which will be integrated into the brand’s existing app, will initially launch in the US and is set to expand next year. The launch of a resale option as a central point of contact for buying and selling used fashion was primarily based on demand from Shein’s customers, according to a statement.

A new circular course for Shein?

“The goal of the Shein Exchange is to make reselling as easy and convenient as buying virgin, while also sparking a circular economy cultural movement within our own Shein community,” said Adam Whinston, Shein’s Global Head of ESG. who calls for “keeping clothes in circulation for as long as possible”.

Shein Exchange and the launch of the platform in the US is part of Shein’s commitment to less textile waste and more circularity in the fashion industry, according to the Chinese company, which has often been criticized for its low prices, high production volume and unethical practices .
