Ice hockey, DEL: polar bears also win in Cologne

Defending champion Eisbären Berlin is gaining momentum in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). The Bietigheim Steelers also have a series.

Eisbären Berlin won 7-3 (3-1, 2-0, 2-2) at Kölner Haien on Sunday (October 16, 2022). For the Berliners it was the fourth win in the last five league games, Cologne conceded the first defeat after two wins in a row.

Julian Melchiori (7th) and Alexandre Grenier (9th) put the Berliners in the lead with a double strike, the Cologne goal by Maximilian Kammerer (17th) was countered by doubles Marcel Noebels (19th/31st) and Matthew White (39th).

The Haie came close again through David McIntyre (46′) and Nicholas Bailen (52′), before Grenier (58′) with his second goal and Giovanni Fiore (60′) finally decided the game.

Third win in a row for the Bietigheim Steelers

The Bietigheim Steelers also continued their upward trend. With a 4:1 (1:1, 2:0, 1:0) win against the Straubing Tigers, Baden celebrated their third win in a row. Chris Wilkie (13’/59′), CJ Stretch (26′) and Constantin Braun (36′) turned the game around after Mark Zengerle (7′) scored the visitors’ lead.
