Hovi plans to refer to the queen’s consort Camilla as queen in the future, reports The Telegraph.

Queen consort refers to the spouse of the reigning king, as distinguished from the title Queen, which refers to the reigning queen.

According to the newspaper’s information, the title of queen consort will be quietly replaced by the title of queen. The decision would conform to Britain’s long tradition of referring to consorts of kings as queens.

Camilla has, however, deviated from tradition for the time being. Camilla was willing to take the title of queen consort as a tribute to the people. She joined the royal family in 2005 after marrying the then Prince Charles.

The Queen’s title is expected to be established before Charles’ coronation on May 6.

Charles’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth was also known as Queen as King George’s wife. Charles, who had a close relationship with his grandmother, is said to want the same kind of respect from the people for his wife Camilla as well.

According to The Telegraph, the use of the shorter Queen title is now expected to be adopted by the people and the press. Camilla’s popularity in Britain is currently higher than it has been in a decade.
