Came from Copenhagen in winter
In January, Jonas Wind moved from FC Copenhagen to VfL Wolfsburg for 12 million euros, where he experienced a difficult time with the relegation battle in the first half of the year and a tendon injury in August. The Danish international will celebrate his squad comeback this weekend and spoke beforehand about his move to the Bundesliga. Wind doubted that because of the position in the table of the “Wolves” at the time.
“If I’m honest, I thought about my move for a moment: What happens if we’re relegated to the second division?” he told the “Deutsche Presse-Agentur” about VfL, which was in 14th place at the time. “But with everything I knew about the club and saw the quality of the team, it was 100 percent clear to me: It’s the right step to go here. The Bundesliga is a top league. The organization and structure of the club are really good, the training conditions are great. I’m happy to be here.”

He also defended the VfL squad after another disappointing start to the new season. “I heard a lot before I came to Wolfsburg: the mood in the team was said to be not good. They have such good players individually that they should actually be in the top six. But I really think we have a good atmosphere in the dressing room and really good guys. Everyone always gives their best here,” said Wind. “But we now have a new coach and we had a new coach last season. It just takes time to internalize and implement all ideas.”
Jonas Wind hopes to take part in the World Cup – Kovac “very focused on details”
Niko Kovac and his predecessor Florian Kohfeldt are very different coaches. “Everyone has their own ideas. Niko Kovac is very focused on details,” said the striker. “There’s nothing he doesn’t see. And he demands a lot from us every day.” Kovac himself confirmed Wind’s nomination for the squad on Friday. “It’s nice to have him back. At VfL, we need players like that,” said the coach.
Wind, meanwhile, is hoping for a trip to Qatar despite the long absence. “Now I’m fit again and it’s more than a month until the World Cup. So I think I’m in a good position. It would be a big deal to represent my country, Denmark, at a World Cup.” The striker’s last cap before his injury came against Austria in June, when he was involved in both goals in the 2-0 win. He was also part of the squad for EURO 2020 in summer 2021.
