This is meant by the Zoetermeer-Noord exit along the A12

On the A12, coming from the direction of Utrecht, there is a sign with exit 8 on it. Here you go, among other things, in the direction of Zoetermeer-Noord. Where is that area actually located and what does it mean, we were asked by a reader.

The name Zoetermeer-Noord can only be found on the sign along the A12. You would expect it to be the exit in the direction of the Noordhove district or the Noord Aa recreation area. So no! We submit our question to the municipality.

Exit 8

In 2009 / 2010 a third connection was made with the A12 from Zoetermeer. Exit 6 (Zoetermeer Centrum) and exit 7 (Zoetermeer, Pijnacker, Berkel and Rodenrijs) already existed at that time. Exit 8, in addition to Zoetermeer-Noord, also goes in the direction of Bleiswijk, Benthuizen and the N209.

Zoetermeer wouldn’t be on it at first

At the new exit 8, there would initially be no entry to Zoetermeer. After a lobby, Rijkswaterstaat decided to mention Zoetermeer-Noord on the new connection with the N209. Traffic from the east (from Utrecht) will see this name.

The name Zoetermeer-North was chosen by Rijkswaterstaat. The idea behind this is that the north and east of Zoetermeer can be reached via connection 8. So it’s not about a specific neighborhood or place with the name ‘north’ in it.
