Coach Frank Kramer sees Schalke “exactly where we were expected”

A quote from @DSChermann from the Bielefeld Kramer thread: ‘Kramer is certainly not the type of coach whose teams play well above their level, but they don’t sell themselves below value. It’s solid mediocrity(…)’.

I think that’s exactly what Schalke got. Kramer plays exactly what he played in Bielefeld. It’s not handsome. Before Bielefeld he was already known as Mr. Undecided, the only problem is that every now and then you have to get 3 points to keep the class. With what Arminia is currently playing together, I wonder whether large parts have forgotten how to kick after 1 year. He certainly didn’t develop players further.

But to be fair, he held the league 20/21 by asserting defensive stability. The effect of the coaching change was clear to see at the time. And whoever accuses him of being tactically too rigid: In Bielefeld he played variably at the beginning of the 21/22 season, even in a 3-man chain. That was not successful and criticism from the team probably made him rethink. This was followed by a very successful phase between match days 11 and 23, you were in 14th place in the table and to be honest, there were bright spots in the game back then. After that it was a tragedy, he probably lost contact with the team. At the same time, that was also the phase in which the wires of the player consultants glowed. Patrick Wimmer, the strongest offensive player, moves to Wolfsburg and goes into overdrive. Nilsson makes his connection contract clear. With Prietl, the captain, top performer and leader has a post-corona fatigue syndrome and will be eliminated. Long story short: Kramer is certainly not solely to blame for the relegation and the series of defeats.

To Schalke now: I think the coaching discussion is premature. The BuLi is a class society and you will occasionally get in trouble with the troops. Hertha, Stuttgart, Schalke and Bochum will probably make up the relegated teams. Augsburg and Bremen perform strongly. Maybe someone like Mainz, Cologne or Wolfsburg will be there for a longer time, but they have more resources/experience. And against these teams you play quite successfully, if not ideally. There are still games in the first half of the season in which you can score points. A losing streak against Dortmund, Augsburg, Leverkusen is not really scary. Especially since Drexler just announced himself as a trainer in an interview.
If you change the coach now and don’t manage to turn the tide, and I personally believe that Schalke will play against relegation one way or another, you only intensify the unrest in the club. It will also be more difficult to act again later with a change of coach.
