Tommelein reacts after gas explosion: Within the red zone there is still danger, up to 20 buildings damaged
“There was a suspicious smell of gas at 11:19 AM, at 11:36 AM there was a heavy explosion at the take-away restaurant Lucien. Three people are seriously injured. It concerns a policeman, a firefighter and a supervisor of children with disabilities,” said the mayor.
“A large perimeter has been established. Within that red zone there is still danger, 15 to 20 buildings have been damaged. Now it is checked for risk of collapse. The utilities are closed, people within the zone cannot go home before 8 pm this evening.”
“The De Groeiboom childcare center has also been evacuated in the area, 22 children have now been taken care of by parents or family. In addition, a reception center has been set up, everyone involved in the incident is received as well as possible. Everyone should get a bed tonight.”
