This is a spoiler that life writes: A 34-year-old woman from the USA writes on Reddit that her Apple Watch told her she was pregnant. As she recently gave birth to a child and is still breastfeeding, she has not had her period yet. Therefore, without her Apple Watch, the mother would only have found out about her new life much later.
Interestingly, the Apple Watch Series 8 actually has temperature detection that can be used to keep an eye on the female cycle. However, the pregnant American still wears the predecessor on her wrist. Based on which data from her Apple Watch did the woman conclude that she was pregnant?
Apple Watch shows increased resting heart rate
As she writes, when she looked at her body values, she noticed an increasing resting heart rate, from normal 57 to an unusual 72. The Apple Watch had already displayed the increased values for almost two weeks. She then tested herself for Covid – negative.
She didn’t feel slack either. A cold was therefore also excluded. The body temperature also showed normal values. While searching for possible reasons, the woman accidentally came across an article on the Internet.
The report was about signs of pregnancy in the early stages. There she read that an increase in the resting heart rate could be an indication of pregnancy. The woman gets a pregnancy test – positive.
“The watch knew I was pregnant before I knew it” the woman noted in her Reddit post. In the meantime, the Apple Watch pregnancy notice has also been confirmed by an examination in a clinic. Even on the ultrasound nothing could be seen of the growing life. Her baby is due on June 9, 2023.

Contraception via Smartwatch?
Because people went to the doctor in time because of unusual values, the Apple Watch has often saved lives. This is the first officially known case where the intelligent wristwatch gives new life, at least indirectly.
Presumably there will be more frequent indications of pregnancy via Apple Watch in the future. As already described, the 8 series has a function to log your own cycle and estimate the next date for ovulation. However, Apple emphasizes that this is really only an estimated date. Therefore, the Apple Watch should not be used as an alternative method of contraception. Otherwise, it will soon be: “Now it’s 13! You are pregnant.”
