Number of dead and injured in Russian rocket attacks rises

The number of people killed and injured after Russian rocket attacks on several Ukrainian cities on Monday has risen further. According to the latest reports, at least 14 people have been killed and nearly 100 injured, CNN reports based on data from the Ukrainian emergency services. Earlier, the emergency services reported at least 11 dead and 64 injured.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia carried out 84 missile and air strikes on Monday. Ukraine says it has intercepted 56 missiles and drones. About 20 villages and towns were hit, according to the army.

The shelling of Kiev coincided with the morning rush hour. They took place at one of the busiest traffic junctions in the metropolis. Several vehicles were completely destroyed and surrounding buildings were damaged. They were the first attacks on the capital since June and are described as the most intense since the early days of the war.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said the rocket attacks are in retaliation for a Ukrainian “terrorist attack” on Saturday’s road bridge from Russia to the Crimean peninsula.
