THE CAR will be the follow-up to the 2018 Arctic Monkeys album TRANQUILITY BASE HOTEL & CASINO. ME author Albert Koch said at the time: “The biggest guitar band of their generation subjected the guitars to voluntary self-control, wrote songs and arrangements that didn’t fit into the indie rock grid, and temporarily discarded rock mannerisms.” In his review, he summed it up as follows: “The debut WHATEVER PEOPLE SAY I AM, THAT’S WHAT I’M NOT at the beginning of 2006 once again bundled the indie hysteria of the mid-nineties and at the same time marked its end. FAVORITE WORST NIGHTMARE a year later was the heavy edition of the debut with well placed 60s infusions. HUMBUG expanded the spectrum to include psych, surf and hard rock in 2009, and SUCK IT AND SEE to include US pig rock in 2011, which resulted in a real shitty album. After that, the Arctic Monkeys were written off as just one of many noughties indie bands that had lost their thread and would almost certainly break down on something (like: drugs, rock star fantasies, creative burnout). Finally, in 2013, AM marked the Sheffield band’s surprise return to their mysterious eclecticism in an indie rock vein.”
