FC Bayern Munich and the German national soccer team have had to do without full-back Giulia Gwinn for a long time.
The suspicion of another cruciate ligament tear in the 23-year-old has been confirmed. As the Munich Bundesliga club announced, Gwinn already had an operation on Sunday. For her it is the second cruciate ligament tear after 2020.
“It’s a very hard blow for Giulia and we all feel for her. We will support her as best we can and wish her a lot of strength,” said the sporting director of the Bayern women, Bianca Rech.
Gwinn suffered the serious knee injury last Wednesday in a training session with the DFB women. This was the result of detailed investigations after her return to Munich.
Gwinn had already suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in the European Championship qualifier against Ireland in September 2020 and then fought back. She was part of the national team at the European Championships in England.
