Gyan was under contract with Feyenoord between 1997 and 2007 and became a cult hero in the Kuip. He played 90 minutes against Borussia Dortmund in the 2002 UEFA Cup final.
After his career, things went wrong for Gyan. He got into financial difficulties, but with the help of publishing a biography he seemed to be doing better. At the end of November, however, the news came through that he was terminally ill and that Feyenoord was already preparing a ‘worthy farewell’.
He himself indicated that he was doing well under the circumstances. In addition to Feyenoord, Gyan also played for Excelsior, the Finnish clubs Turku and RoPS and Wrexham (Wales). In 2010, the 23-time Ghanaian international put an end to his professional career.
