Albirex Niigata returns to the J1 League after five years. After a 3-0 (0-0) win against Vegalta Sendai on Saturday, the club can no longer be denied promotion two games before the end of the second division season. Attacking midfielder Ryotaro Ito scored twice in the second half before substitute Alexandre Guedes leveled the score late on.
Niigata are top of the table with 81 points from 40 games, while Yokohama FC, with Hamburg-born Svend Brodersen (25) in the squad, are second in the promotion bracket. The third climber will be determined via the playoffs.
