Bird flu again in Wildervank, 27,000 laying hens culled

Bird flu was diagnosed at a laying hen farm in Wildervank, just across the provincial border with Drenthe. To prevent the spread of the virus, the approximately 27,000 laying hens are culled by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA).

Within a radius of 1 kilometer of the infected farm there is one other poultry farm and within a radius of 3 kilometers there are another seven other poultry farms. Six of them currently have no animals in the barn. The companies are examined by the NVWA and intensively monitored for fourteen days for symptoms of disease.

There are 27 other poultry farms within a radius of 10 kilometers around the company. Due to previous infections in this region, a transport ban already applies in this area.

Bird flu has already been diagnosed twice in the past period at companies in Wildervank. This led, among other things, to a transport ban, and obligatory incubation and screening in the vicinity of Gieten, Gasselternijveen and Annen.
