WhatsApp Premium: This is behind the paid subscription

WhatsApp has been working on a paid subscription since May 2022. Now it’s done. WhatsApp Premium, as the offer is called, is not aimed at all users.

Unlike Instagram, the meta group cannot place any money-making advertising on WhatsApp. But the Messenger has come up with a solution to increase its income – a paid subscription. TECHBOOK reveals what WhatsApp Premium is all about.

WhatsApp Premium is aimed at business customers

With its optionally bookable premium offer, WhatsApp does not want to appeal to conventional users. Rather, the new subscription is aimed at business customers who receive some extra services with the paid offer. These are above all:

  • Own, defined URL: This is a unique, short link that allows customers to contact the business directly via WhatsApp. It looks something like this: https://wa.me/NameDescompany. The link can be changed every 90 days if you wish.
  • Use with more devices: Companies that subscribe to WhatsApp Premium can connect up to 10 devices. This should make it easier to manage chats when several people in the company use the same WhatsApp account to send messages to their customers.

The offer is voluntary, so it does not have to be booked. However, the extra functions mentioned are only available to WhatsApp Premium subscribers. Those who do not want or cannot book the subscription can continue to use WhatsApp as before. This means that there are still no costs for regular WhatsApp users.

Management of the subscription

The subscription is part of the WhatsApp Business app and cannot be found in the traditional app for regular users. According to WABetaInfo, the update has already been made available to the first companies in different countries. It may take a while before it reaches everyone. The offer can then be found in the settings under the “WhatsApp Premium” tab, where the subscription can also be managed as an alternative to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. The subscription can be canceled at any time, although WhatsApp Premium can continue to be used until the end of the respective booking period.
