John Lennon signed a letter on the day of his murder in 1980 that is now set to be auctioned off by Gotta Have Rock and Roll. The document contains the names of three people to whom Lennon gave his power of attorney to vote at a Beatles conference in London.

Lennon signed the letter on December 8, 1980 – just hours before he was shot and killed by Mark Chapman. An auction sum of around 30,000 to 50,000 US dollars is expected. The ex-Beatle also signed a copy of his fifth album, Double Fantasy, that Chapman had given him to sign on the same day. The record was auctioned two years ago for $900,000.

Lennon killer Chapman remains in prison

In early 2022, Chapman was denied his twelfth suspended sentence. According to authorities, he last appeared before a parole board at the end of August – the next one is scheduled for February 2024. He was sentenced to life in prison for Lennon’s murder, with the possibility of parole. He is still serving his sentence in Attica Prison near New York City.

Meanwhile, Ringo Starr canceled five concerts in Canada because he contracted the coronavirus. He also put his tour on hold for the time being to recover from his illness. A new edition of Tomorrow Never Knows was also released on September 30th. The original was released on the 1966 album Revolver.
