The biggest economic scandal in the Federal Republic of Germany
The balance sheet problems surrounding the payment service provider Wirecard led to the biggest economic scandal in the Federal Republic of Germany. The company from Aschheim near Munich, which had set itself the task of processing card payments at checkouts and in online business, was considered the great DAX hope. In 2019, the house of cards collapsed on balance sheet manipulations through bogus bookings in the billions.
A year later, on June 25, 2020, the group had to file for bankruptcy. According to the editorial network Germany (RND), many creditors and shareholders are likely to go away empty-handed. The insolvency administrator Michael Jaff was able to gain more than half a billion euros from the sale of subsidiaries when the group was broken up. But that’s not nearly enough for claims of more than twelve billion euros.
Wirecard’s operating and office equipment is auctioned off
In addition to the sale of subsidiaries, Wirecard AG’s inventory is now also being auctioned off via online auction. Jaff commissioned the insolvency service provider Hmmerle from Thringen. According to a Hmmerle press release, the company’s experts were on site before Christmas 2021 and got an idea of the scope of recycling. The experts documented and evaluated more than 6,000 items.
Until February 3rd, 2022, interested parties can bid for office equipment, seating sets, catering equipment and a large number of archive shelves on the Hmmerle website. The company’s fitness studio with pull-up machines, cross trainers, dumbbells, treadmills and rowing machines is also going under the hammer. Bidders who are enthusiastic about sports can also bid on a trampoline, a fitness abdominal trainer, a punching bag with the corresponding boxing gloves and a medicine ball

In addition to sport, Wirecard apparently did not miss out on relaxation. A Shiatsu massage chair that has been put up for auction is particularly popular. If you then also buy one of the nine coffee machines on offer from WMF, you can make yourself really comfortable.
From a potted plant with a minimum bid of ten euros to a package of 25 desks for 2,800 euros, every bidder can bid for a Wirecard souvenir. But even this proceeds will not be able to cover the extensive claims of the creditors and shareholders.
