Up to 10,000 spectators can attend the game between the second division soccer teams Werder Bremen and Karlsruher SC in the Weser Stadium on Saturday.
A corresponding individual application was discussed and approved at the Senate meeting on Tuesday, according to the Bremen Senate Administration.
The regional magazine “buten un binnen” had previously reported on the decision and pointed out the 2G-plus rule that applies in the stadium on Saturday.
In principle, the 500 viewer limit still applies in the city of Bremen, where the highest warning level four applies due to high incidence values. After that, open-air events with more than 500 people are also prohibited.
Bremen Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte defended the approval. He called on the TV station “Welt” to come back to uniform rules: “Otherwise one allows zero, the other 1000, the other 10,000, the other 15,000 – and that confuses everyone. My petition is: Uniform rules too In this case, we can allow a few spectators, but of course we can’t overdo it.”
