Queen Margaret removes her grandchildren’s Titles

Queen Margareeta of Denmark removes the titles of prince and princess from her four grandchildren.

Queen of Denmark Margaret II remove the Royal Titles from his four grandchildren, Hovi informs.

The change concerns Margareta’s younger son, the prince Joachim’s descendants. Joachim has four children: Prince Nicholas23, a prince Felix20, a prince Henrik13 and a princess Athena10.

From the beginning of 2023, Joachim’s children will be known only by the names of Count or Countess of Monpezat. The titles of prince and princess are no longer used for them.

In the future, they will also not be called Royal Highnesses, but Excellencies. The change will eventually also apply to Joachim’s future descendants.

Prince Joachim’s children will be known for a while as Prince Nikolai (on the right), Prince Henrik, Prince Felix and Princess Athena. Joachim’s wife, Princess Marie, is on the left side of the picture. PDO

The change does not affect the order of succession to the crown. Prince Joachim is currently sixth in line to the crown and his children follow him in order of age.

– With the help of her decision, the queen hopes that her four grandchildren can shape their own lives more freely without the special considerations and obligations brought by the official attachment of the court, the court’s announcement says.

Shock

Joachim’s ex-wife and mother of the two eldest sons, Countess Alexandra has commented on the Queen’s decision to the Dane for BT magazine. Judging from the Countess’s words, the new decision was not made by consensus.

– We are all confused. We are saddened and shocked, this came out of the blue. Children feel rejected. They can’t understand why their identity is being taken away from them, says Alexandra, not only for herself, but also for Joachim and his now-wife Princess Marie on behalf of.

Prince Joachim and Countess Alexandra were married from 1995 to 2005. Two children were born from the union. PDO

Spokesman Helle von Wildenrath Løvgreen adds to the magazine that the countess is currently unable to say more about the matter.

In the footsteps of Sweden

The release also refers to similar policies of other courts.

The King of Sweden also came to a similar decision Charles XVI Gustav in 2019, when the number of royals representing the court was reduced. With the change, the prince Carl Philip’s and the princess Madeleine’s children have no royal rights and no obligation to participate in the court’s representative duties. Nor are they addressed as royal highnesses.

However, all the king’s grandchildren still have the title of prince or princess, even a prince born after the change Julian.

Queen Margareeta has two children, Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim. PDO

In time, Denmark will be ruled by Margareta’s first-born son, the crown prince Frederick. Frederik and the Crown Princess Mary’s have four children together. Only the eldest of them, the prince Christian16, is entitled to an annual allowance paid by the state after reaching the age of majority.
