Therese Johaug is one of the greatest cross-country skiers the sport has ever produced. The Norwegian, who resigned in March, has now found a new job.
Norway’s ski queen Therese Johaug is the new cross-country expert at the broadcaster “NRK“. From the soon to start 2022/23 World Cup season, the 34-year-old will share her experience from now on. “I feel like I have a lot of knowledge after being active in the sport for so long. There are over 15 years of experience in the national team,” Johaug is quoted as saying by the broadcaster.
She now wants to “pass on this knowledge to those who sit at home and watch”.
Johaug’s new work as an expert will begin with the World Cup meeting in Ruka, Finland (November 25th to 27th), followed by Lillehammer, Norway (December 2nd to 4th).
One of their highlights is the Nordic World Ski Championships in Planica, Slovenia, at the end of February. Because: In 2021 Johaug had dominated the World Ski Championships like no other. In all three individual competitions, freestyle, classic, mass start, she won the gold medal. She also led the Norwegian women’s relay to the top of the podium.
“It will be strange to be behind the scenes”
“The Nordic World Ski Championships is something very special where the whole country comes together,” says Johaug, who is also looking forward to the race in Beitostölen, Norway (9th to 10th December). “It’s always a weekend you’ve looked forward to and gotten a little extra big nerves about. It’s going to be weird being behind the scenes.”
In the course of her career as a cross-country skier, Therese Johaug not only won world championships. Among other things, she won six Olympic medals, including four gold ones. At the last Winter Games in Beijing, she stood on the top step of the podium three times. In the last World Cup she won the distance classification for the fifth time, and she won the overall World Cup three times (13/14, 15/16 and 19/20).
