Bruges swan population halved in two years: “If eleven more swans die, a curse will descend on Bruges”

The well-known swans on the Reien in Bruges have been hit by bird flu. Eight animals have already died and as a result they are only 62. A halving in just two years. According to an ancient legend, there are never less than 52 swans allowed to swim in Bruges. Otherwise a curse would descend upon the city. And that lower limit is now suddenly dangerously close. “We will do everything we can to honor the legend and thus keep more than 52 swans,” it sounds.
