In late August, Britney Spears and Elton John released the duet Hold Me Closer, a remake of John’s 1971 hit Tiny Dancer. John is now hoping Spears will start releasing his own music again soon. That’s what Elton John’s husband David Furnish said in an interview etonline.com.
“Elton hopes that now she will get the courage to go deeper into the music,” said Furnish. “I think it’s very scary when you’re away from something for a long time. It’s pretty discouraging, so he’s hoping this is a first step for her on a path where she’s making great records again and maybe even performing.” Hold Me Closer is Spears’ first release since 2016. Last explained that she sees reasons not to perform live again.
In the studio, Spears had precise ideas about the result. “She was very specific about what she liked, what she wanted, and how she wanted it to sound,” Furnish said. “And she made great comments. She’s really in control and embracing her purpose, and that’s exactly what you want.” He was also delighted with her performance: “This is the first recording she’s released in six years. She went into the studio and she did amazing vocals.”
The duet came out a year after a court ended her father’s guardianship of Spears. Until then, she was under the care of her father for 13 years because of mental health problems. Britney Spears denies there was ever a reason for the guardianship and accuses her family of taking advantage of her.
