BVB has closed the gap created by chief scout Markus Pilawa’s move to Bayern Munich in the summer. At the head of the scouting department, Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl will be relying on a trio in the future.
As the “Ruhr Nachrichten” and the “WAZ” reported on Friday, Eduard Graf and Laurent Busser are now equally at the top of scouting for professional football. The 38-year-old Sebastian Krug is to be primarily responsible for scouting in the area of top talent.
All three should be “closely networked and working side by side on an equal footing”, according to “Ruhr news“.
The TV channel “Sky” had already reported Graf’s internal promotion at BVB on Thursday. The 33-year-old has been with Borussia since 2013. Graf initially worked as an assistant coach for the U19s. He later worked as a scout and most recently as chief scout for young talent under NLZ director Lars Ricken.
Busser switched from FC Bayern to BVB in the summer
Graf is said to have helped arrange one or the other BVB transfer in the past. Among other things, he is said to have been involved in signing Jadon Sancho in the summer of 2017.
Today’s England international moved from Manchester City’s youth team to Dortmund, where he scored 38 goals in 104 Bundesliga games and joined Manchester United in the summer of 2021 for 85 million euros.
52-year-old Laurent Busser has been working for BVB since June. He was previously employed as “Team Leader Scouting Licensed Players” at FC Bayern. Born in France, he is considered, among other things, to be the discoverer of Kingsley Coman.
With the trio at the head of Dortmund’s scouting department, Sebastian Kehl is pushing ahead with the reorientation he wants in player monitoring and transfer policy. According to the “WAZ”, BVB wants to continue looking for young talents, but also increasingly rely on factors such as identification, mentality and attitude.
