Known for its distinctive style, the JW Anderson brand stayed true to its reputation with its Spring/Summer 2023 collection, presented during London Fashion Week.
The women’s fashion show took place in a London casino arcade. The associated aesthetic can also be seen in the collection, which aimed to merge the world of technology with real life.
This concept has literally been translated into apparel with keyboards and t-shirts inspired by desktop screensavers, adding a touch of humor to high-end fashion.
Other pieces featured abstract silhouettes and outsized proportions, like a balloon-shaped Orb dress made from a sculptural mirror material, and an upside-down turtleneck sweater made from a large knit material.
In addition to the more experimental pieces, some drew inspiration from nature. A crumpled t-shirt dress bore an image of the earth, while a garment resembling a plastic bag gave the illusion of containing a goldfish.
Some designs, on the other hand, completely twisted everyday reality, like pieces that appeared to be hanging on hangers, garments with giant washing tags, and a hammock that became a dress.
“The message is one of realism – whatever real may mean today – conveyed with a reductionist language that elevates each piece with blunt statement status,” read the show note.
