Four shoplifters were arrested on Wednesday after they tried to get away with stolen groceries in Bergen op Zoom. They wanted to hit a store employee. Grocery store customers assisted in the arrest by blocking the thieves’ car.
An employee of the supermarket in Bergen op Zoom had already noticed the foursome. They were walking around the store in a suspicious manner, he thought. He thought they were taking stuff without paying. That turned out to be correct: at the checkout they each paid for two products and just walked out with the rest of their shopping.
The employee called the police and went after the two men and two women. They had loaded the groceries into a car and had now got in. The driver of the car tried to hit the store employee when he was standing in front of the car.
Clamped
When the suspects were about to drive away, one of the other customers with a car blocked the exit of the parking lot. Another customer parked his car behind the shoplifters’ car, so that they were stuck and had no way out.
Just then, officers arrived at the store. They were able to keep the four. It concerns two men aged 21 and 52 and two women aged 19 and 44. They come from Romania and have no permanent address in the Netherlands.
