Unrecognizable Club Brugge loses with clear figures from Standard
In the first ten minutes, Club Brugge claimed the ball in a swirling Sclessin, without being dangerous. The first real chance was for Standard, Balikwisha scored well in the far corner, but was offside. Standard was not impressed by Club Brugge’s big win in the Champions League at Porto earlier this week. A shot by Dragus went just wide of Mignolet’s goal and an attempt by Amallah, on goalkeeper Bodart’s pass, also went wide.
That could be better decided Zinckernagel: the Dane shot nicely past Mignolet with the left after half an hour of play. Bruges was unable to counteract that in the first half. Skov Olsen’s crosses were below par and Yaremchuk could not show why Hoefkens chose him over Jutgla.
Jutgla can’t turn things around
In the second half, Standard continued to put pressure on Bruges with the support of a frenzied crowd. The expected substitution of Jutgla for Yaremchuk did not change that. The infiltrating Zinckernagel, who came over from Olympiakos Piraeus, brought the team from Liège to 2-0. Coming from the right, he shot straight past Mignolet across the corner. Carl Hoefkens brought in three new forces: Antonio Nusa, Dedryck Boyota and Eduard Sobol for Kamal Sowah, Abakar Sylla and Bjorn Meijer. Standard coach Ronny Deila also has to change. Taste maker Zinckernageln was replaced by Osher Davida injured.
Added time
In the final, Bruges tried to fight again in the match. Skov Olsen cut in, but Bodart went flat. The third goal of the match was also for Standard. In added time, Balikwisha scored. Club Brugge is now third with 19 points, eight points behind leader Antwerp and three against Genk. Standard also has to tolerate Oud-Heverlee Leuven and is fifth with 16 points.
