A UPV professor has gone viral by creating a Twitter thread with expressions used by university students

To the professor of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) Vincent Giner he rents him (= he compensates him) this of the social networks. These days, in fact, pegao (=in fashion, it is a trend). And that which recognizes that it does not even reach boomer (= fifty)which is more identified with the Generation X (=thirties).

On any given Tuesday in September, before the course begins, Giner posted on his personal Twitter account an appeal to students and teachers: he wanted to generate a thread that collected the expressions that students currently use. And the result, well “not so bad & rdquor; (=better than expected)in fact, has been to be flipping (=something very striking is happening): almost three million impressions, close to 11,000 likes and more than 300 answers that have railed (=helped to fulfill its objective) to Giner. Normal that Vicent is in mode they are recording me (= I can’t believe it).

Because what began with the sole objective of learning a little more about the vocabulary of its students, has become a fun viral thread beyond the borders of the UPV. And that I don’t know father (=hesitates), is rather from chill (=quiet).

Statistics Professor

Vicent Giner Bosch is a professor at the Department of Statistics and Applied Operational Research and Quality, to which he has been linked since 2001. Next week he will begin teaching master’s degrees at the UPV, at the same time as he is preparing to become a full professor at the university .

has a blog and use social networks, especially Twitter, to keep up with research, opinions and work of colleagues and international experts. Until his thread went viral and changed his perspective. In just a few days, he increased around 400 followers, which is a growth of followers of 26%. He is a teacher with flow (= good vibes) 24/7 (every day of the week).

“I was especially surprised that most of the contributions have been positive, of a different style. From young people who corrected and explained some expressions, to high school teachers who told what they heard in class & rdquor ;, explains Giner. “For me –continues the teacher– everything that is happening is flattering, but it is nothing more than what I do in class every day”.

Teachers with empathy

In this sense, Vicent Giner affirms that This request that he made through social networks “is nothing to write home about.or, it is to encourage students not to be afraid to ask, just as I have done in this thread, we are not going to expose them for not knowing & rdquor ;, and recognize that “many of us are like that. The level of empathy of the UPV faculty with the students increases every year”.

Aware that this has been a “funny anecdote”, Vicent Giner wants to take advantage of this virality to publicize the work that he and his department carry out at the Universitat Politècnica de València, in the field of teaching and in the sector of research. And surprise, why not, your students with some expression during classes to capture their attention and that nobody thinks that of…” Sir, if you want a bag & rdquor; (=don’t come to me with your rolls, sir).
