Fans support FIFA compensation for workers in Qatar

An overwhelming majority of football fans would like the world association FIFA to pay compensation for the World Cup workers in Qatar.

According to a global poll by polling firm YouGov, 73 percent of those polled voted in favor of compensating workers injured in the preparations for the finals (November 20-December 18).

Even 84 percent are among those who plan to watch at least one World Cup game.

Over 17,000 participants in the survey for the soccer World Cup

More than 17,000 adults in 15 countries, including Germany, were interviewed as part of the survey published by the human rights organization Amnesty International.

67 percent of the participants are in favor of their respective national football association publicly addressing the human rights situation in the desert state and supporting compensation payments.

Amnesty and other organizations launched the #PayUpFIFA campaign in May. The aim is for the world association to set up a fund in favor of the workers.

FIFA responds with a statement

FIFA should make at least 440 million dollars available for this – the same amount that it distributes in World Cup bonuses.

FIFA responded with a statement on the results. It states that those questioned may not have been aware of the measures that the world association had already enacted in recent years to support workers.

FIFA also announced that it would continue its efforts to help workers who had been injured.
