The tendency of Germans to return goods declined this Christmas. This was the result of a study by the Federal Association of E-Commerce and Mail Order (Bevh).

Between December 16 and 17, the polling company Civey carried out a survey of a total of 1,005 online shoppers aged 18 and over on behalf of the Bevh. In response to the question “Do you tend to return more or less products purchased online than usual during the Christmas season?”, A total of 16.4 percent said “clearly less” or “somewhat less” than usual.

Only 1.7 percent of those questioned stated that they return “clearly more than usual” at Christmas and 2.6 percent assume that they make use of the right of return “more than usual”. According to their own assessment, 64 percent of the participants send back as much as usual.

As a result of the pandemic-related restrictions in stationary retail, online sales grew by almost 16 percent from the beginning of October to the end of November. Despite the higher order volume, the return rate did not increase in the period under review, according to the representative survey.
