Jürgen Klopp spent his 59th birthday in the company of basketball legend Dirk Nowitzki. The former successful coach of Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool FC met the former NBA star in the morning on the sidelines of the World Cup for a game of padel tennis.
Klopp was surprised with a serenade
“It was unbelievable. We had the day of our lives. Even though I’m a lot older today,” said Klopp as an expert from MagentaTV before the broadcast of the World Cup game between France and Senegal.
The Swabian’s birthday didn’t go unnoticed in the stadium either. His MagentaTV colleagues surprised him with a serenade. Among the well-wishers were former soccer world champions Mats Hummels and Thomas Müller, who each held up a balloon.
“What do you give a man who already has everything? A birthday song, a weird birthday song,” said Klopp with a smile. Moderator Johannes B. Kerner also presented him with a birthday cake.
