SC Verl scored a point in the home game against SV Meppen on matchday 8 of the 3rd division, but remains in a relegation zone.

At 2:2 (1:2) on Monday evening, the East Westphalians were trailing behind for a long time, but shortly before the end they managed to equalize.

Verl started with Yari Otto up front, making his starting XI debut. Maximilian Wolfram moved from the starting XI to the bench for him.

Faßbender hits twice for Meppen

Otto’s strike partner Cyrill Akono had the first chance of the game with a long-range shot after three minutes, but Jonas Kersken saved it safely in the visitors’ goal. On the other hand, it became much more dangerous shortly afterwards. First Mirnes Pepic shot the crossbar of the Verler box from 20 meters, then goalkeeper Niclas Thiede could not hold the ball in the air duel with David Blacha. The beneficiary was Morgan Faßbender, who made it 1-0 for Meppen with a powerful header (8th).

After some dangerous scenes from Meppen, Joel Grodowski surprisingly equalized for Verl. The Loser midfielder made it 1-1 (26′) with a flick from the corner of the penalty area. However, the better team remained the SVM, which consequently took the lead again in the 31st minute. After a dream pass from Marvin Pourié, Faßbender appeared in front of Thiede and scored the 2-1 and his second goal with a lob. After that, the game flattened out and remained without further highlights before the break.

“Joker” Wosz rewards loser efforts

Verl came out of the break well and recorded two dangerous scenes that ended without a shot on goal (47′). It became much more compelling in the 56th minute, when Otto just missed the goal with a rebound from the chest after a cross from substitute Tobias Knost. It was even tighter when Vinko Sabina hit the post with a direct free kick (65′).

The SCV kept pushing for the equalizer, while Meppen barely came out of their own half. A failed cross from substitute Nikos Zografakis was surprisingly dangerous for Kersken, who just managed to steer the ball over the crossbar (77′). In the 87th minute, the home side were rewarded for their effort. First Sapina failed because of a brilliant parry by Kerskens, then “Joker” Joscha Wosz pushed in to make it 2:2.
