The demolition of the last sagging houses on the Oudcomfortstraat in Roden can start earlier. The last family of one of four sagging houses in the street has to leave their home quickly because of ‘extra movement’. As a result, safety cannot be guaranteed.
Tonight local residents were informed by the municipality of Noordenveld. The demolition of the four houses was halted because the municipality had not yet reached an agreement with the residents of one of those houses. During the replacement of sewers in 2017 and 2018, the homes were heavily damaged.
Since then, the houses on Oudcomfortstraat have been monitored. Now that it appears that the house is becoming more unstable, the last family has to leave the house. “The demolition will therefore take place earlier,” says alderman Jos Darwinkel. Demolition was expected to start in the autumn, so that construction could start again in early 2023. “In the meantime, we are looking for alternative accommodation for the family.”
The drought of the summer is the reason that the houses have subsided further. The municipality of Noordenveld considers it important for safety reasons to start demolishing quickly.
Measures are now being taken in collaboration with a demolition company to start the demolition in the short term. It is not clear when that will be exactly, but the municipality says that it will happen ‘at least in October’.
A contractor is still being sought for the construction of the four homes that will be built on the same site.
