A good quarter of an hour before the end, SV Darmstadt 98 still looked like the sure winner on the Betzenberg in the 2nd Bundesliga. Then 1. FC Kaiserslautern celebrated their comeback – and still gave up the threesome. The match ended 3:3 (1:0).
The mood at “Betze” was reminiscent of times when the Lauterers regularly drove Bayern to despair. Especially for late goals FCK stood like no other club.
Lautern does not give up against the “lilies”.
Dirk Schuster’s protégés also showed this quality of simply not giving up on Sunday (September 11th, 2022) against the “Lilien”, who missed the connection to the top. In fact, they had already paved the way for this.
Tobias Kempe in the 45th minute and Phillip Tietz four minutes after the restart gave Torsten Lieberknecht’s team a 2-0 lead. But that wasn’t enough in the end, also because the guests didn’t put enough pressure on the third goal.
Joker Seydel saves a point
From the 74th minute Kaiserslautern then burned down fireworks. Kenny Redondo scored the first goal with a powerful header. Then Mike Wunderlich followed up from the penalty spot – Matthias Bader hadn’t seen Hendrick Zuck in the penalty area and had knocked him over from behind while trying to knock the ball away (77th minute).
The fans in Kaiserslautern escalated completely when Redondo headed in a cross from Marlon Ritter to make it 3-2 three minutes before the end. But Darmstadt still had an answer: Aaron Seydel, who had just come on as a substitute, scored in the 90th minute to equalize 3:3.
