In Scotland, early Sunday morning, people gathered along the roads through which Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin is to be driven.
Near the village of Ballater, around twelve kilometers east of Balmoral Castle, the first families with chairs and flags secured a place at the barrier at 7 a.m., as the British news agency PA reported.
The car with the coffin is supposed to drive at walking pace in many places so that the people can pay their last respects to the queen. Queen Elizabeth died at Balmoral Castle on Thursday, aged 96.
The coffin was to be carried out of the castle to a hearse at 11 a.m. (CEST). The car was to be taken east to the coastal city of Aberdeen, then southwest to Dundee and finally to the Scottish capital, Edinburgh. A journey time of around six hours was planned.
