The death of Queen Elizabeth II sets in motion a whole protocol machine, the script called ‘Operation London Bridge’. The announcement of the death of the 96-year-old queen happens in several ways. One is a piece of paper traditionally hung at the gates of Buckingham Palace in London, after which flags are flown at half-mast until after the funeral.
