The world football association Fifa has awarded the Fair Play Prize 2015 to all clubs and organizations that support refugees. The former Bundesliga player and former international Gerald Asamoah accepted the award at the gala in Zurich on his behalf. “I’m very, very honored to be standing here,” Asamoah said. “It’s important to stand up for something like that,” he said. He himself knows how it is and in his emotional speech he referred to his father, who used to flee Ghana and found a home in Germany. “Football can make a difference,” said Asamoah. It is “very important to counteract xenophobia and racism”.
