Man is thrown from car in accident on A58 and is seriously injured

A motorist was thrown from his car in an accident on the A58 near Breda on Monday night and was seriously injured. That happened after he hit the guardrail for unknown reasons and overturned his car several times. Emergency services who arrived at the scene of the accident found a completely destroyed car.

On the passenger seat was an injured man of 24 from Zaandam. The seriously injured driver, a 21-year-old man from Zaandam, was lying between the car and the crash barrier. The first reports of the accident came in to police around 2:30 p.m. A car, coming from Etten-Leur, had overturned several times on the A58. This happened in the bend in the direction of Rotterdam.

Trauma helicopter
Due to the seriousness of the accident, a trauma helicopter landed on the highway. The road was closed for hours after the accident for police investigation. This caused long traffic jams in the morning rush hour.

Police are investigating how the accident could have happened. What is now clear is that the car in a bend in any case hit the guardrail, after which the car rolled over several times and came to a stop against the guardrail.

During the rollover, the driver was thrown from the car. Possibly because he was not wearing a seat belt, the police said. The passenger who suffered minor injuries was wearing his seat belt. Both victims were taken to hospital.
