In honor of Taylor Hawkins, Dave Grohl’s 16-year-old daughter Violet covered two Jeff Buckley songs at the tribute concert at Wembley Stadium on September 3. She was joined by a band made up of her father Dave Grohl, Alain Johannes, Greg Kurstin, Jason Falkner and Chris Chaney.
Before they started their performance, Dave Grohl dedicated an obituary to the late drummer: “Taylor Hawkins has brought me so much music over the years. He was a musicologist, he knew more about music than anyone I’ve ever met in my life. He kept bringing albums to my attention that I had never heard before. One of them was Jeff Buckley’s ‘Grace’, a classic album. So tonight, as we’re honoring the music that Taylor loved, we’re going to play a couple of songs from Jeff Buckley’s ‘Grace,'” he said.
They covered Jeff Buckley’s “Last Goodbye” and “Grace”. When introducing his band, he turned to his daughter and described her as “the only person I know who can actually sing a Jeff Buckley song.” In addition to the Grohls, other artists also paid tribute to Hawkins, including Liam Gallagher, Mark Ronson, Josh Homme from Queens Of The Stone Age and Supergrass. The Foo Fighters ended the night with a line-up of drummers including Travis Barker, Nandi Bushell and Hawkins’ 16-year-old son Shane. Paul McCartney also played two Beatles songs.
