In a meeting, the footballer requested to acquire 24.9% of Barça Studios
The president of the Blaugrana entity denied it so as not to breach the code of ethics
The members of Barça gave the green light to the board of directors chaired by Joan Laporta to sell the club’s assets and improve the entity’s financial situation. The famous ‘levers’ to which the Blaugrana president has been referring during all these last months.
after selling 25% of the television rights for the next 25 years to the investment group Sixth Street (in two batches, first 10% and then 15%) for 267 million euros, Laporta activated the sale of Barça Studios.
Thus, the third lever was subsequently executed with the sale of 25% of Barça Studios to Socios.com in exchange for 100 million euros. The club was still able to sell 24.9% more and, according to Joan Fontes on Catalunya Radio, Gerard Piqué asked if he could acquire the remaining percentage of this operation.
Laporta ruled out this route due to the club’s code of ethics, a fact that did not sit well with Piqué, since he was not satisfied with the decision, according to the aforementioned information. Finally, Barça activated this fourth lever through Jaume Roures and his company Orpheus Media.
