Car burnt out fire at garage in Hoogeveen

A fire broke out in a shed near a car garage on Smirnoffstraat in Hoogeveen on Sunday morning around half past six. A car was found on fire at the rear of the business. It was extinguished by the fire brigade.

The fire brigade then saw that smoke was coming through under the company’s roller doors, and therefore wanted to open the door to see what the situation was like in the shed. Opening the door allows new oxygen to enter the shed, causing a possible fire to flare up inside. Therefore, extra cars were called in as a precaution.

The corps of Zwinderen, Zuidwolde and De Wijk-Koekange were asked for assistance. The help turned out to be unnecessary: after opening the doors, the smoke subsided and the situation seems to be under control.

The cause of the fire is not yet clear.
