At least 10 dead and 15 injured in stabbing in Canada | Abroad

Ten people were killed and at least 15 others injured in several stabbings in at least thirteen places in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan on Sunday evening. The two suspects are on the run.

Police have released the names of the suspects, Damien (31) and Myles Sanderson (30), as well as their descriptions. The two are armed and are still considered a major threat. A warning has been issued for the province of Saskatchewan, as well as neighboring provinces of Alberta and Manitoba, the Toronto Star reports.

Police said some of the victims appeared to have been targeted in the attacks, while others were allegedly chosen at random. The attacks took place at 13 sites in James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon, local police Rhonda Blackmore said.

Motive unclear

The two suspects are said to have fled in a black Nissan Rogue. “It is horrific what has happened in our province today,” Blackmore said. Police have not released anything about the motive of the two and whether they are brothers.

“There are no words to describe the pain and loss caused by this senseless violence. All of Saskatchewan mourns with the victims and their families,” Saskatchewan Prime Minister Scott Moe wrote on Twitter.

According to a police warning issued shortly after noon, the pair may be in Regina, the capital of the province of Saskatchewan. A large police force had already been mobilized there because of a Canadian football match at the Mosaic Stadium near the center of the city. However, Blackmore said it was unclear in which direction the suspects had fled and whether they have since switched vehicles.

Police say the number of injured could rise. It is possible that slightly injured victims went to hospitals independently for help. It is also feared that the death toll could rise further. Health authorities in Saskatchewan report that several of the injured are in critical condition.
