Ella Junnila’s season ended at the European Championships in Munich.
PASI LEISMA
Ella Junnila will not compete in the Swedish track and field meet this weekend. The SE woman’s name cannot be found in the women’s high jump participant list.
– We wanted to make sure that we can start the training season healthy, Junnila’s coach Tuomas Sallinen tells.
Junnila competed two weeks ago at the European Championships in Munich. The Finn failed to qualify with a score of 178, while this season’s highest score is 192.
A tearful Junnila said after the qualification that the reason for the poor result was a stomach cramp during training. However, he wanted to try jumping.
– The cramp doesn’t bother me anymore. We’ll play it safe now. There is no other injury, Sallinen opens.
Sallinen does not reveal whether his protégé has undergone more detailed examinations after the EC trip. However, there is a rest in the program now.
– We hold the normal meetings after the competition season and go over what to do next in training. Now there is a transition period before the exercises resume.
Junnila suffered an early season injury that kept her on the sidelines for a few months. The injury was treated before the World Championships in Eugene.
In Munich, the condition seemed promising.
– I had really high expectations. After the World Championships, all training had gone really well. Running training has never felt as good as in Munich, Junnila commented after the disappointing European Championships.
Finland is represented in the women’s high jump in the Sweden match Heta Tuuri, Sini Lälä and No, go ahead.
