Cyclist Pascal Ackermann narrowly missed out on winning the day on the 13th stage of the Tour of Spain. Ackermann had started the sprint again, but Mads Pedersen was significantly faster.
The 28-year-old from the Palatinate had to admit defeat to the Danish winner of the day and the Frenchman Bryan Coquard after 168.4 kilometers from Ronda to Montilla in the sprint on Friday (09/02/22). Ackermann started the final sprint early, but had to let former world champions Pedersen and Coquard pass him and is therefore still waiting for his third Vuelta victory of the day.
Evenepoel further in red
Remco Evenepoel once again easily defended the overall leader’s red jersey. With 2:41 minutes, the 22-year-old Belgian continues to lead ahead of the Slovenian defending champion Primoz Roglic. Third is the Spaniard Enric Mas, 3:03 minutes behind Belgium’s great cycling hope Evenepoel.
Juan Ayuso, who was fifth overall, was another driver who tested positive for the corona virus. However, as Ayusos UAE Team Emirates announced, the 19-year-old Spaniard is symptom-free and has a low risk of infection. In consultation with the medical officers of the Vuelta and the world association UCI, it was therefore decided to let Ayuso in the race.
On the 14th stage on Saturday, the battle for positions in the overall standings will continue. After 160.3 kilometers, the day’s section ends with the mountain finish at 1815 meters on the Sierra de La Pandera.
