The Government has commissioned Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) for the new railway connection to connect the center of Barcelona with T1 and T2 at El Prat Airport every 15 minutes with ten trains Alstom.
In a statement this Friday, the Government reports that the Alstom plant in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda (Barcelona) will be responsible for manufacturing these new ten trains 85 meters long, five cars, capacity for 600 people and a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour.
The Vice President and Regional Minister for Digital Policies and Territory, Jordi Puigneró, visited the plant this Friday and stressed that with this action they assume “a triple commitment to the country”. “Global connectivity, a commitment to decarbonisation and a commitment to the industry and economy of Catalonia, three elements that must be key in any public policy of any government”, added the vice president.
€177 million contract
The contract is valued at 177 million euros and includes full maintenance for a period of 15 years to be carried out by Alstom, which will build a specific workshop for FGC.
The president of the FGC, Marta Subirà, has highlighted that the trains will be developed following eco-design criteria and the maximum weight reduction will be sought to minimize consumption.
The president and CEO of Alstom Spain and Portugal, Leopoldo Maestu, adds that the contract is the result of commitment of the company’s teams to intelligent and sustainable mobility in Catalonia.
