Puma and Spanish brand Palomo Spain have teamed up for a collection inspired by ’70s soccer stars and gender fluid.
The focus of the collection is the glamorous lives of football legends and the extravagant approach to fashion in the 1970s, Puma announced on Thursday. This aesthetic is given a fresh twist with Palomo Spain’s modern style, which focuses on romantic and gender-neutral designs.
Blokecore and 70s trends
With the combination of 70s vibe and football pieces, the collection follows the current return of the 70s as a trend as well as the ‘blokecore’ trend, which is particularly popular with Gen Z and their favorite platform Tiktok and relies on vintage football jerseys.
“My goal with this collaboration was to transfer our over-the-top vibes to Puma while stepping out of my comfort zone by designing sportswear,” said Alejandro Gómez Palomo, Founder and Creative Director of Palomo Spain.
Football icon Johan Cruyff inspired collection
For the collection, the designer was inspired by Johan Cruyff, a Dutch football icon of the 70s. Among others, Cruyff played for the Dutch national team, FC Barcelona and the Dutch record champions Ajax Amsterdam, whose stadium bears the name of the deceased football star. He was also active as a coach.
The collection consists of 15 models based on a color palette of beige, white, various shades of blue, burgundy and yellow. Pieces include a tracksuit, polo shirt, t-shirts and shirts. There are also several matching accessories such as a printed scarf, various bags and a hat as well as several shoe models – a sneaker and a loafer, which is also available as a boot.
“Palomo Spain’s take on fashion is always warm and inviting, whether it’s through the choice of colors, materials or references,” said Heiko Desens, Global Creative Director at Puma rebellion, standing up to stereotypes and celebrating one’s own expression is also what Puma stands for.”
The collection will be available in Puma stores and online, in the Palomo Spain online shop and at selected retailers. It is priced between 40 and 450 euros.
