First bus connection from Ypres to France

First bus connection from Ypres to France

As a rural region, the Westhoek faces major challenges when it comes to mobility. Public transport in particular is more limited than in the rest of Flanders.

There will now be a first cross-border bus connection on French territory. The Line connection between the station of Ypres and that of Armentières in France will start from 1 September. And that on weekdays for a year.

Additional connection in the making

In addition to the Ypres – Armentières connection, the Westhoek service association (DVV) is also trying to realize the Poperinge – Hazebroek (FR) pilot project. Since this bus connection goes through a rural area, the safety regulations for the buses in France are higher than for an urban area. De Lijn does not have vehicles with seat belts, but DVV is in consultation with several French partners.

In 2021, private taxi companies will also be deployed to offer extra rides during peak times to call bus users in Veurne.
