Nord Stream AG’s website states that there was no gas flowing through the pipeline between 3 and 4 a.m. The volume of gas was already lower in the hours before.
Russian gas company Gazprom previously announced that gas deliveries would be temporarily suspended on Wednesday due to maintenance work. Deliveries were to resume early Saturday morning.
The head of the German energy supply regulator, Klaus Müller, said he doubted the claims about the maintenance works.
Germany is highly dependent on Russian gas imports. Since the invasion of Ukraine, Gazprom has been turning off the tap more and more. Currently, the Nord Stream 1 pipeline only supplies 20 percent of its maximum capacity.
As a result of the Russian threat, Germany took a series of measures to ensure supplies. For example, there is a return to coal and the energy consumption in public buildings is reduced. In addition, the country released an envelope of 1.5 billion euros to buy LNG (liquefied natural gas, ed.).
