By 2050, half of the summers will be similar to last summer, or worse. Researchers from the French climatic service Metéo France warn against this today.
In recent weeks, France has had to deal with three heat waves that lasted a total of 33 days. That will be a “harbinger” of a future marked by climate change and the associated fires, droughts and storms with fatalities. This also applies if the emissions of greenhouse gases that cause global warming are contained.
The average temperature of the summer of 2022 was already 2.3°C above the average of the 1991-2020 period, and is the second warmest since the start of measurements in 1900. The summer of 2003 remains the warmest for the time being, with a mean that was 2.7°C above normal values.
Metéo France points out that the consequences of global warming are getting better and better: of the eight last summers, six are in the top 10.
On Monday, the RMI in our country released the figures for the summer months. The RMI expects to arrive at an average temperature of 19.6°C, against the normal 17.9. The absolute record remains 19.9 degrees Celsius from 2018.
