Ice hockey world championship in Denmark: Confidence in German ice hockey women before the world championship

Status: 14.11.2021 2:43 p.m

Shortly before the start of the Ice Hockey World Championship, the German women are confident. Most recently, two test victories were achieved against the first World Cup opponent Hungary.

The German ice hockey women are going into the World Cup in Denmark (25 August to 4 September) with a lot of self-confidence. “We’re well prepared but we need to get back on track on Thursday to win the game”said national coach Thomas Schädler before the start (08/25/2022, 3:30 p.m.) against Hungary in Frederikshavn.

Eleven legionnaires, nine players from the DFEL final teams

The DEB selection, which won both preparatory games in Füssen against the same Hungarians (1-0 and 2-1), traveled to Denmark with 23 players. Eleven of them are active in North America (6), Sweden (4) or Slovakia (1), nine players with one of the two finalists of the German Championship (DFEL), champions ERC Ingolstadt and ECDC Memmingen Indians.

Schädler: victories “don’t overrate”

“You could tell that the players had a break of almost nine months without an international competition. That’s why the two friendlies against Hungary did us a lot of good. But I don’t want to overrate the two wins in the friendlies.”said Schädler.

Defense attorney Daria Gleißner added: “We prepared intensively for the World Cup here in Füssen and came together as a team. The atmosphere in the team is good.”

Other opponents in Group B are Sweden on Saturday, the Czech Republic on Monday (both 3.30 p.m.) and the hosts Denmark on Tuesday (7.30 p.m.).
